Mayra & Gustavo’s Story

Mayra and Gustavo recently faced financial difficulties and struggled to cover their rent. Mayra had been off work for a couple of months following the birth of their son. Additionally, their roommate, who had contributed to the rent, unexpectedly moved out and Gustavo’s landscaping job did not provide sufficient income. HIF’s partner agency, St. Vincent de Paul, referred them to HIF for emergency rental assistance.






For over 20 years ProFloors has been a vital part of our Renovation Program, providing over $100,000 of in-kind donated services and materials. They have also supported our events and are currently a key part of our Trades Cohort for our Major Gifts Campaign, making a three year pledge to help achieve our fundraising goals. Their commitment to our mission and serving our communities through the highest quality service and outcomes for shelters and agencies has helped to make our Renovation Program unique within the nonprofit sector in the Bay Area.


Goals4Good

HIF’s Building Leaders Initiative (BLI) and our fantastic sponsors and guests enjoyed a beautiful day at the San Francisco Soccer Fields for our first Goals4Good event, raising almost $20,000 in support of our homelessness prevention programs. HIF is grateful to the BLI for their dedication.



Diaz Family

Destiny and Hector were on temporary leave from their jobs after the birth of their son when they found out they had been laid off. Struggling to make ends meet with a 3 month old baby, the new parents reached out to one of HIF’s partner agencies, The Bill Wilson Center, for assistance. HIF was able to grant financial assistance to the young couple to ensure they did not lose their home. “We wanted to thank HIF for helping my family during this difficult time."



CORA

HIF and Saarman Construction, along with Karlee Coble Interiors and several generous vendors, have created a beautiful environment for the clients of CORA, a San Mateo domestic violence agency dedicated to helping those affected by partner abuse, to ‘shop’ for new household goods as they prepare to move into their into new apartments and onto the next phase of reclaiming their lives and independence.



2024 HIF Summit

Our fantastic night of fundraising, presentations, awards, and networking raised over $750,000 for our housing programs! With over 700 people in attendance and 64 sponsors, this was one of our largest Summits to date.


Rebekah Children’s Services

Led by Prometheus Real Estate Group and supported by Advanced Restoration, ProFloors, Fashion Furniture, GD Painting, Medallion Landscape, APD and so many generous supporters, HIF renovated five housing units that will support at-risk families as they rebuild their lives and move toward independence. This project leveraged over $250,000 of in-kind support for a market value of over $300,000!




Christina Blackketter

Christina started at HIF in April 2023 and now manages both the Renovation Program and the Affordable Housing Initiative program, which includes assessing and reviewing applications, collaboration with donors and partners, rent collection, data collection, and community outreach.


Ride Home 2024

This year’s event included a 30 and 15 mile cycling route, a 2 mile walk and kids bike ride, two virtual video game trucks, competition BBQ, raffle, and live music!





CityTeam Renovation

AvalonBay, HIF and our awesome vendors team up for CityTeam Renovation Project! CityTeam Youth Collective’s supportive housing program aims to prevent homelessness by providing a loving community, essential life skills, and transitional resources for youth ages 18-24, many of whom are exiting foster care. HIF completed the following project with a market value of $36,000 in services and materials.


Breigha Sawyer

Breigha Sawyer is a passionate grant writer and fundraiser with a strong dedication to nonprofit development. Over the years, she has collaborated with a diverse range of organizations including homeless services, and more recently a farming education program in the Bay Area.



Christina’s Story

Life has not been easy for Christina, who grew up in foster care. She worked very hard to get where she is today and afford her first apartment, a place that she can call her own. Christina lost her job as a result of a car accident where her car was totaled, as she was not able to travel to and from work. She started to make financial sacrifices and cut back on expenses to make ends meet while searching for a new job. Realizing she was getting further behind...

2023 Donor Appreciation Dinner

On November 1, 2023, HIF hosted our annual donor appreciation event at the home of Tod & Cathy Spieker. It was a wonderful night of conversation, networking, and appreciation for our supporters who show up for HIF year after year. Thank you to our donors, and to everyone who attended this event!



2023 HIF Summit

This year's Summit raised a total of over $875,000! With over 750 people in attendance and 80 sponsors, our 2023 Summit was the largest ever and raised a record of over $545,000 in sponsorships and ticket sales alone.



Covenant House

Covenant House California (CHC) is a non-profit youth shelter that provides sanctuary and support for youth experiencing homelessness, ages 18-24. Because of the support of HIF’s amazing Corporate Champions and HIF Board Companies BluSky Restoration Contractors and Equity Residential, we were able to renovate 5 units which will allow 7 young adults to move into safe, supportive housing.

















Ride Home 2023

Our second annual Ride Home fundraising event raised over $60,000! All net proceeds directly support our housing programs.



Ecumenical Hunger Program Garden

Renovation Program Champion and long-time supporter of HIF, BellaVista Landscape Services, transformed a community garden for the Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP) in East Palo Alto, donating 100% of their labor and materials to fully irrigate and expand the garden space at EHP which provides fresh and healthy produce for local residents in need.



Maitri’s Anjali Transitional House

In September 2022, we completed this project at no cost to Maitri thanks to the generous support from Essex Property Trust and our professional vendor network. We provided new kitchen cabinets, counters and appliances, updated the bathrooms, and upgraded plumbing. We also painted the entire interior and refreshed the courtyard with drought resistant plants and a freshly-painted fence.


Champion Spotlight – Samaritan House

Samaritan House, one of San Mateo’s leading nonprofits, is the largest food distribution agency in the county and recognized as a role model in the community. Their free service offerings include shelter and housing assistance; medical and dental clinics; clothes for children; personalized case management and much more. Each year, they provide services and resources to more than 14,000 low-income and homeless San Mateo County residents in need, including families with children, seniors and individuals living with a disability, veterans and homeless adults.


Champion Spotlight – Sequoia

As one of the largest privately held property management companies on the West Coast, Sequoia has more than 400 team members who provide unparalleled customer service to residents living in more than 16,000 homes. They believe it's the little things they do for both their residents and team members that go a long way. Sequoia embraces the guiding principle of giving back, and they believe that much of their success stems from relationships with the communities they serve. It's not a task or a reminder to make an effort, it's in their DNA. It's what they do.

Alta Housing is a community-based nonprofit organization that builds and manages affordable housing in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. In addition to providing safe, well-maintained housing they provide their residents with supportive services to help them thrive.
