Elsa’s Story

Elsa has lived in the Bay Area for almost 20 years and it has never been her plan to ever leave the place she has called home for so long. She currently is a Health Services Coordinator for a nonprofit in San Mateo County where she has worked for 10 years. A job that she truly is invested in and loves helping families with health and educational resources. Elsa and her daughter live in a unit generously donated by our long time partners at Sequoia Equities where they have lived for the past 2 years.

“I feel very lucky to be part of the Affordable Housing Initiative (AHI) Program. It hasn’t been easy as a single mom, but it hasn’t been impossible either, especially when you find the best resources in our community. I have always fought hard to give my daughter good housing stability and this housing program has helped us have a good life without stress.

The AHI Program has helped me manage my savings and has given me the opportunity to help my daughter with her college. Since we moved to Cupertino my daughter has been emotionally happy, positive and very excited attending West Valley College which is 15 minutes from where we live. This program has given me and my daughter the opportunity to feel safe and secure. My daughter has one year to finish college and transfer to the University of her choice. Also a high-five for helping us find housing that is dog-friendly!”

Please help us continue keeping our valued community members like Elsa housed by donating today.
