30 year-old building gets much deserved makeover
The Salvation Army offers a lifeline to adults who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves, and want to get back on their feet. Rehabilitation Centers provide residential housing, work, and therapy, in a safe, clean environment. The center in San Jose has been offering free treatment programs for over 30 years – and unfortunately, the building’s age showed.
When HIF toured the building, we noticed that the upstairs hallway was very dark, with a brown color scheme, dim lights, and peeling paint on the doors. The center has a large backyard area, but it needed landscaping and some color. Essex Property Trust took the lead on the project, returning as a 3rd-time Corporate Champion. Other generous vendors contributed their time and materials to the renovation, including Arborwell, Bay Pro Landscape Services, G.A. Higgins Construction, Pierce Signs & Displays, and the Sherwin-Williams Company.
Fresh paint made all the difference in the hallway! Light shades of grey and white on the walls, doors, and trim completely brightened up the space. Out back, the yard got some much needed landscaping, with a tree removal, new pebbles and mulch, and bright red umbrellas for shade. The grill structure also got a makeover with new paint. Thanks to the generous volunteers, this transformation will help provide an uplifting environment for the 85 men residing at the Salvation Army!
