When Roma lost her job due to a lack of work, her family’s financial stability quickly unraveled. Despite taking on temporary jobs whenever she could, the income wasn’t enough to keep up with rent and other household expenses. As the missed payments accumulated, her landlord began the legal eviction process, leaving Roma and her two teenage children facing the very real possibility of losing their home.
The uncertainty weighed heavily on the family. Without assistance, they would have been forced to move in with relatives who were already struggling to make ends meet, giving up the privacy, stability, and sense of security they had worked so hard to build.
Through a referral from Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, Roma was connected with HIF’s Emergency Housing Fund. The grant arrived just in time, providing the support she needed to catch up on rent and remain in her home.

The grant not only prevented eviction—it preserved a sense of normalcy for Roma’s family during an incredibly difficult chapter. Instead of worrying about where they would sleep, her children could continue focusing on school while Roma concentrated on finding stable employment.
