Maitri is a free, confidential, nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area that helps families and individuals from South Asia facing domestic violence, emotional abuse, cultural alienation, or family conflict.
Major apartment renovation and courtyard upgrade
In September 2022, we completed this project at no cost to Maitri thanks to the generous support from Essex Property Trust and our professional vendor network – in 2021, this project was fully-donated.
This time, we provided new kitchen cabinets, counters and appliances, updated the bathrooms, and upgraded plumbing. We also painted the entire interior and refreshed the courtyard with drought resistant plants and a freshly-painted fence.

Corporate champion: Essex Property Trust
Essex Property Trust, our corporate sponsor, was led by the amazing Amy Aceves, CMS Project Manager. She and ten Essex employees volunteered to roll up their sleeves to paint, plant, and clean.

Professional and generous vendor network
The market value of this project was $40,694. This was money that Maitri did not have to spend on construction costs and could keep these funds in programs delivering services to clients.
G.A. Higgins Construction and IBI, Inc. were the lead contractors on this project and led with heart and soul and a team of professionals who sweated the details, beat the deadline, and produced professional results.
This project included support from Alliance Bath Reglazing, Amador Stone, APD Appliances, Babmar, BayPro Landscape Services, Ferguson Facilities Supply, G.A. Higgins Construction, IBI, Inc., MG Woodwork, Pacific Home Decor, and Sherwin Williams.
Together, these companies donated $39,762 of in-kind support, including labor, materials, appliances, and supplies.
