After spending decades in prison, Lorenzo was determined to rebuild his life and make a difference in the lives of others. Following his release, he dedicated himself to advocating for justice-involved individuals, supporting those navigating the challenges of reentry and working to ensure others have the opportunity to build a better future. His journey reflects the power of perseverance and the importance of access to resources and second chances.
This year, rising living costs and unexpected vehicle repairs threatened the progress Lorenzo had worked so hard to achieve. Struggling to keep up with rent on his studio apartment, he faced an impossible choice between paying for transportation to work and keeping a roof over his head. Despite cutting back on basic expenses, he eventually exhausted his options and faced eviction.
Through a referral from Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office, Lorenzo received assistance from HIF’s Emergency Housing Fund, which helped him catch up on past-due rent and avoid losing his home.
Because of the generosity of HIF’s donors, Lorenzo received help when he needed it most. Your support does more than help individuals remain housed. It gives people like Lorenzo the opportunity to keep moving forward, pursue their goals, and continue making a difference in the lives of others. Together, we are helping prevent homelessness and ensuring that a temporary financial crisis does not undo years of hard work, determination, and progress.
“Having stable housing means everything. It is the foundation that allows me to show up to work, maintain my responsibilities, and continue moving forward. I am deeply grateful to HIF and to Ana for the referral that made this possible.”
