Jenny’s Story

“In 2016 I made one of the hardest decisions of my life. I left my husband of 7 years, quit my upwardly-mobile yet work-life-balance-clashing job, and moved home with my mother to pursue a new career. I wanted to make the best life possible for my then 4-year-old son, and knew we needed a change. I began searching for a new start and was soon happily pursuing a career in healthcare. Now, four short years later, I am celebrating my 4th anniversary at Kaiser Permanente, and am a few short months away from graduation with honors from a Radiologic Technology program.

Despite the current pandemic, I am beyond excited to start my career as an x-ray tech. As I have four years of seniority at Kaiser, getting placement in a position there will be fast, and I have received several job offers in addition to this. Unfortunately, it can take a few years to reach full-time status with shifts that work for a single mother who needs to drop off and pick up her child Monday through Friday. I have considered moving out of the area, but my son’s father is still very much in his life and is not willing to move at this time.

It is for these reasons I am looking for temporary support. Reduced rent would allow me to concentrate on finding the right shifts in a nearby hospital so that I can grow my career and income into something more sustainable, all while caring for my son in my hometown. I thank you for the opportunity and look forward to hearing from you.”
