Thank you—truly—for stepping in during one of the most critical moments of my life. Your support with the funds I needed to secure my new home has meant more than I can put into words. After being homeless for over two years, battling depression, PTSD, and anxiety, and undergoing not one but two hip replacement surgeries within just a few months, I was exhausted—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Throughout this journey, I’ve had the responsibility of caring for my two-year-old pit bull, who’s been my rock, my emotional support, and my constant companion. He’s been there through the darkest nights and the hardest days, sensing my pain and offering comfort when I had nothing else. Moving into this new place was a huge step forward, and while I’m grateful to finally have a roof over our heads, it breaks my heart to see him struggling with the new environment. He’s scared, unsettled, and I wish I had the resources to get him the help he needs. But right now, I’m just beginning to get back on my feet—navigating SSI, dealing with changes to my medical coverage, and trying to rebuild a life from the ground up.
Your assistance came swiftly and without hesitation. You asked a few questions, saw the hardship, and responded with compassion. I couldn’t have done this alone. A year before this, I lost my partner to cancer, and that grief left me broken and vulnerable. I made some painful choices, including turning to fentanyl to cope with the physical pain of my hips. I overdosed four times. But by the grace of my higher power, I’m still here. I’m healing. I’m trying.
And through it all, my dog has stayed by my side—loyal, loving, and intuitive. He’s helped me survive, and I only wish I could do more for him now. Even though I still struggle to walk and face daily challenges, I’m deeply grateful. Grateful for this roof. Grateful for your help. Grateful for the chance to start again.
Thank you for being part of my journey. Your kindness gave me more than just a place to live—it gave me hope.
Finding stable housing was a major turning point. Through a referral from HomeFirst, Jamie was connected with HIF’s Emergency Housing Fund, which provided the financial assistance needed to secure a new home.
