HIF spent a sunny day in October 2016 with our friends at Valley Village Retirement Community, giving the wonderful senior residents an updated building and brand new community kitchen.
Valley Village encourages seniors to live at their highest level of independence and personal dignity by providing affordable housing with a variety of services, inspiring them to live happier, healthier lives. HIF wanted to help Valley Village achieve that mission by giving the residents an uplifting and dignified environment.
The previous color scheme of the Valley Village apartment building was pink, pink and more pink! The residents playfully referred to it as the Pepto Bismol building. We thought the seniors may appreciate a change up in color palette, and AvalonBay Communities stepped up to the challenge, bringing a team of employee volunteers to paint the four story building in calming shades of blue and green.
Thank you to AVB and all our vendors, including Apartment Renovation Specialists, Brook Furniture Rental, B. Taylor Painting, CriterionBrock, Daniel Gaines Photography, and HD Supply for contributing to the project. Together, we painted the entire building, added new furniture and decor to each floor’s lobby area, installed new door bells, and freshened up the floors with brand new carpeting. Additionally, the community Social Center got a huge face lift with a brand new kitchen donated 100% by AvalonBay and Apartment Renovation Specialists. The seniors can now enjoy parties in the kitchen with brand new cabinets, counter tops, fresh paint, and upgraded appliances.
We hope Maria, pictured below, enjoys her fourth floor (or “pent house” as she calls it) renovation for many years to come!
