VIP Club – A New Way to Give

When people donate money to a charity, it is usually because they want to make a difference in the world by doing something good for somebody else. But sometimes, just writing a check does not provide that sense of personal connection that lets the donor know that he (or she) really did make a difference. HIF has launched a new program that enables donors who are willing to make a $1,000 commitment experience the gratification of knowing exactly how their money has helped. Each month, after the allotment for HIF’s emergency housing grants has been reached, one or more members of the Volunteer Investment Program (VIP) are called upon to fund the next grant application. Along with an invoice to cover the cost of the grant, the VIP partner receives a description of the household that received the grant and the crisis they were facing.

The program was launched in 2006 with 30 charter members. Our goal is to increase that to at least 36 members, so that HIF will be able to fund three extra grants each month.

In the non-profit world, we often talk about empowering our clients. Through the VIP Club, we have empowered our donors. Not only do they know exactly how their funds were used, but also the fact that this family or individual would not have received help were it not for their donation.
